Cosmopolitan Magazine was first published in 1886 as a family magazine, but became a literary magazine in the late 1960s. Today, Cosmopolitan is a popular and trusted women's publication that covers topics ranging from relationships and sex to news, pop culture, and fashion. Cosmopolitan has 63 international editions printed in 32 languages and is distributed in more than 100 countries around the world.
Cosmopolitan started using colour photography of models around 1950. These covers were interspersed with illustrated covers.
They seem to have gone over completely to photography by 1963.

This is part 3 of a 4-part series on Cosmopolitan Magazine:

By August 1946 the Title font has been updated, and cover artist Bradshaw Crandell has given way to Coby Whitmore.
Apparently Crandell wanted to concentrate on private oil portraits.

Maxwell Coburn (Coby) Whitmore (1913 –1988) was born in Dayton, Ohio. He studied at the Dayton Art Institute and honed his skills as an apprentice to illustrator Haddon Sundblom in Chicago before joining the Charles E. Cooper Studio in New York. Soon after, a steady stream of assignments for Ladies' Home Journal, McCall's, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Saturday Evening Post covers and other women's magazines brought him public acclaim.

His work included advertisements for Gallo Wine and other national brands. He additionally became known as a racing-car designer. Whitmore was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1978.
